My Mom's Village

When we first stumbled upon this property on Airbnb, It seemed almost too good to be true. We thought there was a catch! Everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Puja is the most thoughtful, fun host. She provided us with all the information we needed and showed us around the area. Thanks Puja and My Mom's Village for such a wonderful time! We will be back.

Our time in my mom's village surpassed our expectations. The highlight of our stay was reconnecting with nature and embracing the simplicity of doing nothing. We deeply appreciated the hosts for guiding us through the area and engaging us in various rural activities that felt both familiar and novel. The hospitality was outstanding, and the food, sourced directly from their organic farm, was exceptional.

MyMom'sVillage - Bodwal Estate: A Journey Through Time and Nature

In the heart of the village of Bodwal, in the historic Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, stands a wooded estate that has withstood the sands of time - Bodwal Court. It was one of the seats of the historic Suryavanshi clan that ruled over the region. The beautiful, wooded estate, with lush trees, is a haven for nature enthusiasts.
The story of Bodwal estate is closely connected with the Suryavanshi Rajas of Mahuli-Mahson, who have ruled the region since the 13th century.
The Suryavanshis of Bodwal traced their lineage to the Katyuri kings who once ruled over the Kumaon region between the 7th and 11th centuries.
It was Raja Bhawani Ghulam Pal (1850-1892), who divided his estate into four parts, with Mahson going to his eldest son Raja Narendra Bahadur Pal, while Ahra, Bodwal and Bithha were given to the younger sons from his second wife, Rani Sartaj Kunwar. The Bodwal estate along with 20 villages was inherited by Lal Mangal Prasad Pal.
This was the beginning of the Bodwal estate, and a haveli or a mansion was built here by Rani Sartaj Kunwar along with the temple of Sitala Mata. The year 1911 brought a new chapter to the history of Bodwal.
Lal Mangal Prasad Pal had built a Kothi next to the main mansion, which was converted into a courthouse by his son Chandramaul Bahadur Pal. The courthouse, soon became synonymous with the entire estate, and people affectionately began to refer to the property as 'Bodwal Court.' Chandramaul Bahadur Pal, a fervent lover of horticulture and permaculture, transformed the surrounding grounds into a living canvas. The estate became home to a remarkable variety of trees, each standing as a testament to his passion for the environment.
Raja Chandramol Bahadur Pal was succeeded by his only daughter, Kuwarani Lakshmi Singh, who, once again, emerged as a legendary figure in these regions due to her strong social connections and popularity among the locals. Currently, Kunwar Shailendra Singh, the son of Kuwarani Lakshmi Singh serves as the custodian of the estate. Together with his wife, Puja Singh, they are diligently working to revive the estate to its former glory.
In the present day, the Bodwal Court is undergoing a transformative journey into an eco-retreat for nature lovers. The estate, with its serene landscapes and historic structures, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquillity of nature. Bodwal Court estate is not just a retreat; it is a living testament to the harmonious coexistence of history and nature.
